Jeffrey Rowland, creator of Wigu and Overcompensating (and one of my favorite cartoonists), had his LJ account hacked and all his entries deleted last night. I, for one, am taking this as a cue to back up my account.

Penny Arcade's latest lunacy makes me wonder why there isn't an anime with the premise given. If there is, I'd certainly like to know about it.
It would also probably make for an amusing one-shot RPG.

| Star Trek |
[10 May 2009|11:47pm] |
I'm probably the last one to see it, but my thoughts anyway: Pseudoscience FTW! Quinto and Cho are both pretty fantastic. Despite their claims to the contrary, it's a reboot. The action and special effects were excellent. J.J. Abrams' touch is quite evident. Where were the Klingons? Parts of it felt very "Wars" instead of "Trek".
Overall, pretty good. I think it lost something because it didn't have a TV series to provide background.

1. Open your music library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc.). 2. Put it on shuffle. 3. Press "play." 4. For the first question, type the song that’s playing. 5. When you go to a new question, press the next button TWICE. 6. Don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool... just type it in, man!
( These make no sense... )

| "Mavericks" |
[31 Oct 2008|10:51am] |

McCain made some idiotic statement about how you can't expect to put two "mavericks" together and have them agree on everything. How is that supposed to get votes? He's basically saying that if he's elected and she has to take over, their policies aren't in agreement. Why the hell would anyone want to vote for a ticket where you don't know which policies you're going to get?

I got my early voting ballot today. I didn't think about it until it got here that I wouldn't get one of those "I Voted!" stickers if I vote this way. Now I'm sad.

| Healthcare |
[23 Sep 2008|09:48am] |
As long as I'm putting my seditious thoughts out there: now that the US gov't has a controlling interest in the largest insurer in the world (AIG), why can't they use that to socialize healthcare? It would still be "private" (it's still a publicly traded company) but the gov't would have a huge amount of say in how it's doing business, in particular how it decides who gets coverage.
Yes, I thought of this before Jon Stewart hinted at it last week.

Can someone who understands economics better than me explain why no one has seriously suggested turning the $700bil buyout into a stock grab? Seems like that would solve all the problems at once.

Scene: last night. 11:00 - Brush my teeth. Figure I'll play Spore for a little before sleep. 11:30 - Notice it's been a half hour. Think I should go to sleep soon. 1:00 - Finish tribal stage. Notice it's been 2 hours. Decide I'll do whatever I need to do to start the civilization stage, then sleep. 4:00 - Notice it's been five hours. Realize I have to be up at 7.
FAN-F*CKING-TASTIC.
That tmesic adjective can be applied to the game as well as the situation. I haven't stayed up on a weeknight playing a game until 4am since Burning Crusade came out, and I haven't done it before I had to get up early since undergrad.

| Tax Burden and Gay Marriage |
[05 Aug 2008|10:30am] |
This can't possibly be a totally original idea.
So I had this idea while I was drinking on Saturday: legalizing gay marriage could be an enormous tax relief. Here's my logic: there are almost 120000 adoption ready kids in foster care in the US. This costs the federal government about $900 million every year. Since gay couples need to adopt if they want to have kids (not counting lesbians here), they would presumably remove a significant fraction of that monetary burden were they allowed full marriage rights. With kids comes all the costs of having them, which would presumably inject more money into the economy. Less money spent by the fed and more spent by a new segment of consumers. Sounds good to me!
